With the resurrection by Oremin of the Dark Trooper and TIE Droid programs during the Xen’Chi invasion, a new type of ship was needed to effectively deliver these combat droids to a battlezone; enter the Arc-class Assault Ship.
Named in honor of the Arc Hammer, the original ship that manufactured the dark troopers and also served as their launching platform, the Arc-class follows the same basic design principle of being a working factory and a delivery system. Able to continually spit out new droids to replace those that fall in battle, the Arc-class can be a true terror on the battlefield. It is equipped with an inordinate amount of tractor beams for a ship of its size so that it may pull in battlefield debris to be used as raw material for new droids. It also houses a small fleet of tugs for much the same purpose.
Heavy turbolasers and quad laser cannons are used mostly in a defensive role to protect the Arc against capital ships and fighters, respectively. The Arc's ion cannons can also be used in this capacity, but are more frequently used to disable smaller ships so its powerful tractor beams can tear them apart and use the dead ships to fuel its factories.
Several openings on the Arc-class can be used to unleash the newest droids directly from the factory. When not actively making new droids, the Arc’s variable compliment of fighters and combat droids are stored in the prow of the ship. On the off chance that it has created too many droids to carry, the extra units can either be stored with the other ships that accompany it or simply smelted down to be used as raw material for the next battle.
The Arc-class also houses the specialized dark trooper delivery system first developed on the Arc Hammer, allowing the ships to unleash waves of dark troopers towards any unsuspecting enemy installation with the use of special assault pods. These pods are capable of being launched into hyperspace, much like the probe droid modules, giving the Arc-class an extremely long reach.
