Early concepts of the Arcadia-class Installation were designed to much smaller, and were mostly used for zero-G research purposes, mining, operations overseeing, and security. Later on, with the recongized need for a more multi-purpose installation, stations got considerably larger. When the first of the new Arcadia-class stations was commissioned, Cadden Blackthorne decided to redesignate it an Installation. They typically served as the center of trade and communications in their base star systems. Home to scores of smaller ships, including repair vessels, freighters, fighters, and transports, an Arcadia-class Installation was always a safe haven for a convoy of attack ships returning from battle. Where the Star Destroyer was the symbol of Imperial power, the Arcadia was the shining beacon of stability.
