"You don't seem to understand. I see you for what you are....a disease, a cancer. This city is an operating table....and I'm the surgeon."
— Batman

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Henry James Beaumont-Wayne was born in Gotham City to Andrea Beaumont, the one time supervillain known as the Phantasm. His father, Bruce Wayne, the original Batman, had no idea of his existence until he was five years old. Andrea had been one of Bruce's significant relationships. They had parted ways after the relationship failed and came into conflict after Andrea became the Phantasm. A decade later, and nine months before Henry was born, Andrea returned to Gotham, claiming to be reformed. Selina Kyle had just broken off her engagement to Bruce and the impact from that made it easier to rekindle his relationship with Andrea. However, after a short stint together, she vanished.

Five years later she returned to Wayne Manor with little Henry in tow. She had never wanted the boy to meet Bruce. She didn't want him involved in his life. That's why she left when she found out she was pregnant. Unfortunately, Andrea had developed a very rare and aggressive form of cancer. She knew she would not live much longer and Henry didn't have any other family. Several weeks later, Andrea passed away peacefully in her sleep in the master bedroom of Wayne Manor. Bruce had her buried in the family cemetery.

Bruce, Alfred, and even Damian, Bruce's older son whos mother was none other than Talia al Ghul, all took to Henry quickly. His schooling began immediately, and despite his mother's wishes, his training began shortly thereafter.

Fallen Knights[]

"Looks like I'll get the last laugh after all!"
— Joker to Red Hood

Ten years after Henry came to live with his father and brother the world shifted when the unthinkable happened, Batman fell. A year prior, Alfred Pennyworth had passed away due to age and health problems. Like Henry's mother, Bruce had him placed in the family plot. The loss was hard for everyone but took a particular toll on Bruce. It was almost as if he lost a piece of himself with Alfred's death. When the Joker lured out the Bat Family and nearly killed Bruce's adopted son, Jason Todd aka Red Hood, for the second time, Batman rushed to his aid, unwilling to lose another family member.

Robin01

Henry Wayne as Robin

Fittingly, their last confrontation took place in an old factory once owned by Ace Chemicals. As the other former Robins rushed Jason out to receive medical attention the building exploded and the remains of the structure collapsed into the bay, much of the destruction being taken out with the tide. Batman nor the Joker's body was ever recovered. Some believe they are both still alive, though there is no proof.

Unfortunately, Jason's wounds were too grave and he ultimately succumbed to them. The Joker had succeeded in killing the former Robin for a second time. Despite the circumstances the rest of the Bat Family knew Gotham City still needed protecting. The obvious choice to take up the mantle of Batman was Dick Grayson, currently Nightwing and Bruce's first protégé. That said, Nightwing declined. He would help with Gotham but he still had to protect Bludhaven as well. It was then decided that Damian would wear the cowl and officially become the second Batman, promoting Henry from the sidelines to the vacant position of Robin.

A New Era[]

Over the next several years Damian and Henry became a solidly effective team, learning to trust one another like no Batman and Robin before. Henry's older brother tempered his arrogance and maintained his father's rule for no killing, though he didn't always like it. Henry himself continued his training under Damian as well as Nightwing, Red Robin, and several of the other members of the family. He was rapidly becoming one of the most competent combatants on the planet.

Damian, born from the League of Assassins, knew that one day a threat would face Gotham that the dwindling Bat Family couldn't fight alone. Whether it be the League, or the Court of Owls, or Bane at the head of his own army, they wouldn't be able to stop them and so the Cardinal Army was born. A recruitment drive went into full effect and Damian and his allies found others that would have been considered Robin material in the past. They were trained under the watchful eye of the rest of the family, though never truly becoming part of them. It was successful and when the army was ready Damian unleashed the Cardinals across Gotham City. Crime plummeted and for a time Gotham City became a place where young couples wanted to raise a family.

Assault on Gotham[]

Despite the peace that had reigned for some time, Damian's prediction came true. Though Gotham City was now protected by a large group of organized vigilantes, there was something they didn't have.....Bruce Wayne. Despite Damian's prowess as Batman he was not his father and the Demon's Head, Ras al Ghul, knew it. The time had come for the League of Assassins to end Bruce Wayne's legacy. Under the cover of night Damian's grandfather and mother, Talia, infiltrated Gotham with what seemed like an endless wave of black clad ninjas.

Batman03

The Bat Family versus the League of Assassins

The streets quite literally ran red with rivers of blood. Gotham City Police Officers joined together with the Cardinals to fight the tide of death that was threatening to overcome Gotham. The Bat Family, led by Damian as Batman, led the charge. It was with a heavy heart and a silent apology to his father that Damian ordered the group to ignore the no killing rule. The League had to be stopped or everyone in the city would pay for their failure. It was Batwoman, Kate Kane, who ended Talia al Ghul's life shortly before her own was silenced by a sword to the back.

This single event drove the two opposing leaders into a vengeance fueled frenzy, one losing a mother and the other a daughter. They carved their way through their enemies to get to each other. Ras ended the life of Batwing and Orphan himself before being intercepted by his grandson. There, in the streets of Gotham City, Batman and Ras al Ghul battled as they had never battled before. As Ras gained the upper hand and prepared to kill his only grandson, Damian was saved by Nightwing, who took the Demon's blade himself.

Batman reacted with lightning reflexes and snapped the old man's neck, finally putting an end to the centuries of bloodshed that Ras al Ghul had perpetuated. The remainder of the League fled and Nightwing died in Damian's arms before Damian himself passed from severe blood loss. Only a battered Henry, a small group of Cardinals, and a nearly dead Tim Drake survived the assault. The League had all but succeeded. A second Batman had fallen and his family had been decimated.

Abilities[]

  • Master Detective: Henry Wayne is heir to the title of the World's Greatest Detective. Trained in different disciplines, it is easy to claim that he is the Sherlock Holmes of our time. There is no greater detective, than Batman.
  • Genius-Level Intellect: Batman is a brilliant, virtually peerless, detective, strategist, scientist, tactician, and commander; he is widely regarded as one of the keenest analytical minds on the planet. Given his lack of high caliber superpowers, he often uses cunning and planning to outwit his foes, rather than "out-fighting" them. His mind simply works differently than others when it comes to fighting.
  • Master Martial Artist: Batman has studied and trained with a countless number of different instructors, including the first two men to hold the mantle of Batman; Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne. He's incorporated the teachings of every single one into his martial arts. If there is a type of martial arts in existence in the world, odds are that he's studied it at one point in time. From Brazilian jujitsu and the Keysi Fighting Method to Wudanquan and Shaolin, Batman is a master of an extreme number of martial arts. In often cases, he has studied more types than most people and furthermore, he's been training in martial arts since the age of five. Suffice to say he is one of the most dangerous men alive. The list of people who are on par with Henry is incredibly small.
