The Carlania-class Courier was the latest in a long line of Hoersch-Kessel Drive designs that derived their names from planets ending with -a. The Carlania-class itself derived its name from the Inner Rim planet Carlania.
The Carlania-class was designed to outrun most other ships and outfight those it could not outrun. As a result, it was fast and well-armed.
