The Delphinus-class Frigate was a very specialized vessel, designed for anti-starfighter screening. It was an exceedingly rare ship, and served with the Navy of the Black Star Confederacy from 25 BBY. It was updated in 17 ABY, adding an antimatter reactor, improved shield generators, and a BioComp.

These frigates could more than hold their own against enemy starfighters and were specifically designed to combat the threat of starfighters. Unfortunately the Delphinus cost as much as a heavy cruiser, yet it was only suitable for repelling starfighter attacks. The 20 quad laser cannons were specifically calibrated for use against high-speed, and maneuverable starfighters. The weapons had superior tracking and targeting capabilities. Each bank of quad lasers was fed by a single power generator.

It was analogous in many ways to the Empire’s Lancer-class Frigate.
