The Firefly Medium Freighter was designed as a mid-bulk transport capable of going long periods of time without maintenance. In trials it rapidly developed a reputation as durable and easily modifiable. A skilled mechanic could easily keep one running for years without true repairs.
The bulbous rear section houses a type of thrust booster. Under normal conditions, it merely emits a soft glow, but at full thrust and acceleration, the booster emits a bright light, earning the ship it's name. The engines themselves are mounted at the end of the wing pylons and are fully rotatable, enabling the ship to land without repulsorlifts (if necessary) and giving it extraordinary maneuverability for a transport vessel.
The ship also features two small, short-range shuttles nestled into each side of the center section, capable of hauling a few metric tons of cargo each. These shuttles are strictly in-system craft and do not possess a hyperdrive. Some adventurous captains fit them with jury-rigged weaponry, turning them into defensive craft, although performance in such a role is average at best.
