The Kusarigama-class Frigate (plural: Kusarigamae) first saw action in 2 ABY and soon became a mainstay of Shau'ghunate Guard and those Clan fleets who saw fit to purchase the new ship from the Shau'ghun. By 12 ABY they were the most numerous type of capital ship in the Jade Worlds, and the most visible symbol of the Shau'ghun.

Most Guard Kusarigamas were destroyed by the Uul'ba-Rai and the Cold's earliest raids. As of 15 ABY, none remained in Guard hands, although the Clans still maintained several. In 18 ABY, nearly every remaining Kusarigama participated in the Battle of Mon Calamari, where their Scylla Arrays proved devastating against the Charon's singleminded tactics.

Iron Crown Productions manufactures a civilian version, which is bought largely by private citizens, factions on 244Core, and wealthy Celestans who want to own a vessel emblematic of the Unknown Regions. This version replaces the Scylla Array (also known as the Seppuku Array) with a second standard proton torpedo battery. Privately owned Kusarigamae see frequent action against Ebruchi pirates, the Cold, and many other threats of the Unknown Regions. They are a standard sight along the Emerald Way.

Scylla Array[]

The Array is a concentric arrangement of baradium warhead bays, shielded by compartmentalized, redundant inertial dampeners. The middle missile is the largest, boasting a metric ton of baradium; due to the nature of baradium, everything within a kilometre of the warhead will be disintegrated. All missiles can, if necessary, be fired simultaneously. As the military variant of the Kusarigama is no longer in active production, and the civilian version does not include a Scylla Array, this weapon is less relevant in the modern galaxy.
