MUIR (stylized as M U I R) is a conglomerate corporation that is a highly competitive player in a myriad of industries throughout the galaxy. The conglomerate was formed shortly after the Battle of Endor, by Kashi Kato, who had a vision for a new galaxy. Knowing that with the death of the Emperor and the Empire there was going to be a wave of systemic change, Kashi set a meeting with a large number of corporations and companies, mainly smaller entities. These entities had never been united against the corrupt Imperial system, and he appealed to their sense of survival. Whatever government was born from the ashes of the Empire, it would be led by the Rebel Alliance, which meant the return of bureaucracy. Since that would mean the advent of powerful lobbying, Kashi wanted to get in on the ground floor, pooling together the resources of the various companies. Utilizing his friendship with Lana Basa, the owner and CEO of Iktotch Intelligentsia, he pressured the rest of the companies to join in on the large scale merger.
Quadrillions of credits of assets were combined into one large conglomerate, which took it's four letter name from the four largest parts of the whole: Myger Shipyards (Owned by Kashi), Umbaran Arms, Iktotch Intelligentsia, and Regos Mining. Kashi was the largest shareholder and Lana was the second largest. Rekindling a relationship the two of them had had during their days in graduate school at the University of Calidna, Kashi and Lana assumed total control of the new conglomerate, forcing the others into submission.
From that point on, MUIR became a large scale player in the galactic economy. Never quite large enough to challenge more established companies such as Corellian Engineering Corporation, Sienar Fleet Systems, or Kuat Drive Yards, MUIR became incredibly powerful through shrewd business dealings and expert political maneuvering. The company has a hand in almost every sector of commerce imaginable.
All MUIR assets are protected by a corporate security force, MUIR Security Forces, made up of former soldiers and commanders from the various governments around the galaxy.
Now led by Kashi and Lana's son, Roman Basa-Kato, MUIR is poised to continue its dominance in the future.
