- "Being sent to mine the surface of Oremin is a slow death."
- — Anonymous prisoner
Oremin (pronounced Or-eh-men) is an enormous planet located within an uncharted region of Wild Space colorfully referred to as “The Chasm” by Outer Rim spacers. As the spacer lore goes, any ship that flies into the Chasm becomes lost forever. Tales of ghost ships that haunt the area are also prevalent.
The name "Oremin" came from Reng Kasr when he first discovered the enormous planet during one of his missions for the Empire. It’s a combination of the words Ore and Mineral. The three moons of Oremin remain unnamed, as does the belt that surrounds the system.
The planet itself is enormous and is comparable in size to a gas giant. Due to its size, Oremin has a huge gravity field that can crush a normal humanoid and delicate machinery. There is no life or any kind of breathable atmosphere on Oremin. The only thing that makes the planet useful are the plentiful deposits of rich minerals, ores, and metals that are used in starships and other structures across the galaxy.
As a planet, Oremin is still very much in its early stages of development and as such is susceptible to volcanic eruptions and powerful earthquakes. Most of this activity takes place along the planet’s equator, and aside from the volcanic activity, Oremin is very much a barren wasteland.
There are three planet-sized moons that orbit the planet and all three are similar in composition to Oremin itself. An asteroid belt also encircles the system and is actually the result of a collision between two of Oremin’s former moons.
The organization, Oremin, named after the planet that gave it its start, has several mining sites spiderwebbed across the surface of the planet. Due to the high gravity, these sites are mostly automated with the exception of living supervisors. It is also common practice for Oremin to send prisoners or other dissidents down to the planet to mine as punishment and as a way to make them useful to the organization.
A truly massive complex floating in orbit above the planet, known as Anubis, serves as the headquarters for the Oremin organization's many extensive operations. Anubis serves many purposes: from shipyard, to research station, to communications hub, to manufacturing facility, to just about any other purpose that is required by Oremin.
The planet, like the rest of the Oremin organization’s physical territory, is a fiercely guarded secret. On the off chance that some adventurous explorer happens to come across the planet, they are immediately set upon by Oremin's formidable defensive fleet and destroyed - helping to contribute to the legend of the Chasm.
