The Repulse-class Frigates were seen by the Black Star Confederacy as the solution to their pirate problem. Since the Confederate Navy began assigning these vessels to escort duty in 14 BBY, pirates found it deadly attacking Confederate convoys. These vessels proved to be a great deterrent to pirate attacks. The Muir Corporation obtained the design in 14 ABY.

The Repulse-class Frigate was used to protect Confederated convoys. The powerful weapons and shields on this ship made this vessel a formidable escort ship that made the enemy think twice about attacking convoys. These ships had several docking fixtures for light and medium freighters. Also the Repulse-class had sophisticated sensors and deep-space, multi-frequency antennas, allowing them to function as long-range scouts or relay battle information to a command ship. These powerful ships were commissioned due to the pirate attacks on Confederate shipping in the heyday of Drillaria.

These three-engine ships came equipped with powerful hyperdrives and durasteel support structures. Overall this vessel performed admirably; kill rates doubled since the ship's inception in 14 BBY, a few years before the Battle of Drillaria. The Repulse's performance against the pirates guaranteed continued production and Confederated High Command began using these vessels as flagships in lighter lines.

In 17 ABY, the Confederate version of the class was upgraded with antimatter reactors and BioComps.
