Rolan is a rocky wasteland with very little population. Because of the generally inhospitable climate that dominates Rolan, there are very few permanent settlements on the planet. For most of its history, Rolan has been used in only two fashions; for mining and for military training. Only a small population of diehard settlers actually lived there.
When the Empire arrived and turned the Laro system into an outpost, they largely left Rolan alone. However, they did upgrade the facilities that had first been established by the Laro government and created several factories and refueling depots.
Once the Empire fell and civil war broke out among the planets, Rolan was cut off from the other planets for the first time. It forced the colonists and the military personnel to form an alliance of sorts to survive. Over the course of the years since the civil war first occurred, the people of Rolan have formed a kind of warrior society with a council of generals in place to oversee the entire planet.
Because of the superior facilities on Rolan, the average soldier of the planet is easily the better of a soldier from either Laro Prime or Oris. A small shipyard was constructed at the start of the Laro Civil War as a means to keep Rolan’s small fleet well maintained.
