The Starhorse Fighter became the main fighter of the Laro Empire during the Laro Civil War and is one of the few designs developed during that time period to still see extensive use in the Laro Order. It is a well-balanced vessel, with excellent speed, power, and defense. These ships are also relatively cheap to produce, ensuring that squadrons of Starhorse fighters can be found in every corner of the Order.
The Starhorse takes many design elements from Incom’s X-wing starfighter and then adds in Laro’s own personal touch. For example, the "X" profile of the Starhorse is fixed, unlike that of the X-wing. With less moving parts, it helps to keep the starfighter more durable. Also, instead of mounting laser cannons on the wing tips, Laro’s designers have placed the fighter’s engines there instead to increase maneuverability. The last major difference between the X-wing and the Starhorse is the lack of an astromech droid and the placement of a dedicated navicomputer.
The biggest weakness of the Starhorse is, in fact, the placement of the engines. Having them jut out from the main body makes them tempting targets for enemy guns, but the risk was deemed acceptable for the trade-off in maneuverability and keeping the fighter affordable at the same time. Starhorse pilots are trained to be well aware of this weakness and make good use of the fighter’s agility to avoid being crippled.
