The TIE Advanced x1 is most famous for being the personal fighter of Lord Darth Vader. As the ‘x1’ in the name would suggest, the Advanced x1 was an experimental model to try and develop the next generation of TIE Fighters. Vader personally contributed his suggestions as to what the Advanced x1 should incorporate. Although the fighter would never be put into full production by the Empire, many of the features first seen in the Advanced x1 would show up in the later TIE Avenger, TIE Interceptor, and TIE Bomber models.

On its own merits, the Advanced x1 is an excellent fighter that should not be overlooked because of the age of its design. Unique at the time for an Imperial starfighter, the Advanced x1 incorporates shields, boosted laser cannons, improved armor, and a hyperdrive. A powerful generator provides power to all of these systems with enough leftover to bring the Advanced x1’s speed above that of a TIE/ln. The Advanced x1 also boasts a more powerful generator than the TIE/ln and would be capable of achieving far greater speeds if not weighed down by its heavier armor.

Although the Empire has all but phased this fighter out of their ranks, the disparate forces of the Laro System (before they were unified), used the design as one of their more advanced starfighters during their civil war. However, after unifying under Jesika Doljian into the Laro Order, they have begun to phase the fighter out of the navy in favor of newer designs.

The Sith'ari Centrality, as much for public image purposes as for practical value, manufactures a modernized version of the Advanced x1. Colloquially known as a 'Vadercraft', it is the ship of choice for Central Command Operatives, especially those who have been taught to use the Force specifically in the context of piloting. The major improvements are a slight increase in engine performance and a significant increase in shield strength. This vessel is also used by elite pilots and squadrons.

Still, the Advanced x1 holds some nostalgic value for some Imperial officials and can still be found on certain ships, sometimes as a starfighter squadron and sometimes as a personal transport.
