The Thor Space Superiority Fighter was the most advanced fighter available to the Black Star Confederacy.
The Thor was the most versatile and well balanced of the Confederate fighters. Its combination of firepower, speed and durability allowed this fighter to be supremely well suited to the multiple roles assigned to it. Its combination of speed, maneuverability and firepower made it an ideal craft for dogfighting TIE Fighters or for fast-paced attack runs against larger targets. At full recharge rates the laser cannons could fire continuously.
The Thor was designed as a space superiority fighter, and was given the best equipment money can buy. As a result, it was highly maneuverable and quite deadly.
Sporting a total of six heavy laser cannons, two ion cannons, and a warhead launcher, and better shields and armor than a standard X-wing, the Thor could outgun and in most cases outrun an opponent. According to one unnamed designer, it could take on a TIE Defender and emerge victorious. This statement have yet to be proven, however.
The KSF-1 Thor was first introduced in 12 ABY. Most military Thors were upgraded to KSF-1B configuration in 17 ABY, but Killian Shipyards continued to offer the KSF-1A.
The KSF-1B contained several significant upgrades over the KSF-1A. These included an anti-matter reactor, more and heavier weaponry (thanks to miniaturization and more streamlined internal systems), greater speed and maneuverability (thanks to a series of micro-thrusters), and the addition of a BioComp which computed targeting resolutions much faster, as well as serving as a navcom.
